Snežnik Castle is the best-preserved castle building in Notranjska region. This hunting post was first mentioned in sources in 1268. The formation of the existing castle reaches back to 1462, when Schneeberg manor (dvor Sneberk) was mentioned in manuscripts. First it was owned by the Aquileian Patriarchs and later the owners changed several times. Before the war it was the property of the Saxon family Schönburg from the vicinity of Dresden.
